We support the IUCN Africa Conservation Forum (ACF), a premier event that unites key stakeholders in nature and biodiversity conservation from across Africa. Held every four years, the ACF is a leading platform for sharing knowledge, building partnerships, and fostering collaboration among conservation professionals.
This year's forum, inspired by the success of the first-ever IUCN Africa Protected Areas Congress in July 2022, will for the first time bring together all three IUCN sub-regions of Africa—Eastern and Southern Africa (ESARO), West and Central Africa (PACO), and Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation (MED). Approximately 500 representatives from Union constituents, partners, and supporters will gather for this five-day event in Nairobi, Kenya.
Co-organised with the National Committee of IUCN Members in Kenya and in cooperation with the Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, the ACF aims to:
- Evaluate Conservation Progress: Assess the achievements and setbacks in conservation efforts across the continent.
- Revisit Priority Goals: Review and update the key objectives to ensure they address the most pressing environmental challenges.
- Propose Strategic Directions: Develop strategic plans and directions for Africa’s stakeholders to effectively tackle environmental and biodiversity issues over the next 20 years.
By funding and participating in this significant event, we are committed to supporting collaborative efforts that drive meaningful conservation outcomes across Africa.
Objectives
- African voice on current conservation challenges and proposed solutions: Union-wide mobilisation for equitable governance and right-based approaches to improve livelihoods and biodiversity outcomes locally and inform global discourse
- Knowledge Exchange and capacity development – harnessing IUCN’s science, tools and best practices to make a difference for policy and practice in Africa: Building capacity on the application and use of tools, refining tools and best practices and identifying needs for further research, tools and best practice sharing
- Partnerships for implementation - leveraging all parts of IUCN: fostering effective collaborations across geographies and sectors to achieve GBF targets.
